Adorn the Bride: Birdcage Veil

Birdcage veils have long been popular in the past eras (40s & 50s?) but we see a lot of brides today wearing this classic style.

Birdcage veils are also called French veil or Russian veil – after the materials they’re made from (French netting or Russian netting).  Other names for this type of bridal headpiece are blusher veil, angle veil, Venetian veil, and bandeau veil.

Birdcage veils and bandeau veils can be attached to the hair through a comb, a headband, a clip, or a fascinator.  Here is where the bride can be extra playful and creative.

Whimsical designs have been created using feathers, beads, flowers, crystals, pearls, brooches, hats, ribbons, and other accessories.

Sometimes genuine vintage millinery is used to put together a unique, vintage-inspired headpiece.  Such embellishments add up to the charm of blusher veils.

The Birdcage or Blusher Veil

Birdcage or angle veils typically come in three different lengths: 9”, 12”, and 18”.  The veil can be worn in various angles, to match the bride’s hairstyle, dress and overall look.

For instance, the birdcage veil is the full version which can either go from 12” to 18” from the comb to the edge, and can cover the entire bride’s face or just right below the eyes, the tip of the nose, the cheeks, or down to the chin.
